FOTD: Sepia Blue

FOTD: Sepia Blue

Nobody understands the summer heat like us Singaporeans do. When it gets too parched in the day, we wait up till it’s night to head out and party. I mean, that’s why the F1 Night Race started, right? So, feeling too-hot-to-twerk one Saturday afternoon, we made sure to reserve some energy for the Singapore Night Festival that night.

I decided to take my new lashes from the Make Up For Ever new Sepia Blue collection out for a spin. Now, I’ve been looking for lashes with crystals since forever. The Dior Grand Bal False Lashes that were launched last year did make my heart flutter, but for some reason I didn’t get it. When I saw this pair at Sephora, I knew I just had to grab it.

Crabtree & Evelyn Verbena & Lavender

Refreshing Lemons is the New Crabtree & Evelyn Verbena and Lavender Collection

Everybody knows what lavender is. That purple coloured flower that spa companies like to put into their aroma therapy oils. The one that puts the image of a whole field of purple into mind when the therapist massages your head. Now, now. Just to set things straight, this is lavender:

Lavenders all around. Smelling so sweet that even bees can’t resist.

Familiar scene. But what about verbena? It’s not some fancy pancy name Crabtree & Evelyn came up with for their Verbena and Lavender range. This is verbena:

lemon verbena Refreshing Lemons is the New Crabtree & Evelyn Verbena and Lavender Collection

To be specific, this is lemon verbena.

Lemon verbena is a type of herb, looks something like mint, and it smells also something like mint – refreshing. When you mix verbena and lavender together, the final result is something that will wake you up on a lazy Sunday, something herbal and something you’d like your guy to smell like after an afternoon of soccer.

MAC Pastelluxe Veluxe Pearlfusion Shadow

Review & Swatch: The MAC Pastelluxe Veluxe Pearlfusion Shadow

Impulse shopping can be very bad for your purse strings. But when it’s the MAC Pastelluxe Veluxe Pearlfusion Shadow, maybe it’s better that your purse doesn’t have strings. It goes both ways – this palette can either be a great buy, or the complete opposite, depending on you. Let me explain.

First up, the palette contains 5 pastel shades:

  1. Bright Champagne with Pearlised Pigments
  2. Peachy Pink with Pearlised Pigments
  3. Pale Baby Pink
  4. Bright Lavender
  5. Mid-tone Beige Grey

The first four shades are super duper glittery and when applied dry, the glitter flies all over the place! On your bottom lids, cheekbones, dresser top, fingers, clothes… There are glitter flecks of different sizes and no prizes to guessing correctly which ones are the hardest to remove from surfaces! However, when applied wet, they are more well-behaved and go where they’re supposed to. The drawback is this: that even when used with a wet brush,  the eyeshadows come off way too easily with a swipe of a piece of dry tissue. The only shade that acts like a normal eyeshadow is the last one (Mid-tone Beige Grey), which is more shimmer than glitter.

How to Reduce Cellulite

Guest Post: How to Reduce Cellulite

{Today we have a guest writer, Marcela de Vivo, giving us some tips on how to reduce cellulite! And hey, none of them involves using a cellulite-reducing cream. Can we do this the natural way? Read on and find out!}

Hard to avoid and even harder to get rid of, cellulite is the bane of many a woman’s—and the occasional man’s—existence. Some experts estimate that more than 90-percent of women have cellulite somewhere on their body.

Frequently referred to in pop culture in less-than-savory terms (“cottage cheese thighs” or  “orange peel skin” are some of the examples), cellulite is an undesirable, if not harmful, condition. Women struggle with ridding themselves of the unwanted dimpling, spending millions of dollars each year on creams, invasive treatments, and more.

Before you start throwing money at the problem, understand that you can simply minimize the appearance of cellulite by starting to take better care of yourself. By learning what causes the skin to dimple, you can treat the underlying reasons, instead of just smoothing out the surface.

Travel to La La Land with Mink Pink

In authentic Australian fashion, La La Land is all about loving life and living it up on the beaches! Live while you’re young, right? Blogger Chloe Norgaard and LA actress Daveigh Chase ham it up as poster girls this season, in the collection that features bright colours, Aztec prints and a fun-under-the-sun attitude.

Sleek Makeup Blush in Pixie Pink

Review & Swatch: The Sleek Makeup Blush in Pixie Pink

New makeup never fails to raise my mood a little, regardless of what it is. While I’m down with the flu now, I’ve got my new Sleek Makeup blush in Pixie Pink to keep me looking chipper! This blush is of a matte hot pink shade with yellow undertones and is very pigmented. It’s not flaky, unlike some other drugstore brands, and it’s got long staying power.

I apply this with my Sigma Beauty F40 Large Angled Contour brush from the Mrs. Bunny Travel Kit. Because this blush is pretty intense, I usually blend it with a highlighting shade, such as Candy Doll‘s Peach Pink, on my cheekbones.

Who, what, when, where, why, W. The first five are the words of inquiry we learnt in primary school. They help us find answers and make us think through sequences of events. W, on the other hand, may just be a letter but it sums up everything from the who to the why.

Who: Mr. Ratatouille and I

What: A staycation at W Hotel Sentosa Cove

When: Over the long Hari Raya Aidilfitri – National Day weekend

Where: Sentosa Cove, Singapore

Why: We both needed a break from work and some time alone

Eyebrow embroidery at Bluunis review

Review: A Bluunis Eyebrow Embroidery (and a Thalasso Spa)

Caterpillars are green, and caterpillars belong on trees and shrubs – not above our eyes. Nary an occasion when a tattooed lady walks past have I not been in silent amazement and agony. Does she know that her brows are green? Is she aware that green clashes terribly with some colours, like that salmon top she’s donning? Oh my God, this is so distracting. Just look into her eyes when she speaks, and nowhere else. She doesn’t need to know that she’s morphing into Maleficent in my mind.

If I could, I’d recommend everyone who wished to get an eyebrow tattoo to instead consider eyebrow embroidery. The main reason being that it’s not permanent (it lasts for about 6 months), so you never have to end up being scarred for life if you got a terrible job done. The second reason is – you guessed it – that it doesn’t ever leave your brows turning green (or red). Ever. Eyebrow embroidery might not be commonplace in the west as of yet, but it totally should.

I tried out Bluunis about slightly more than a month ago, and was very pleasantly surprised by what I got. I was initially apprehensive, because I didn’t want my brows ending up with a reddish tint that shows up in photographs taken with flash. However, I was assured by the professionals at Bluunis that the dyes used were botanical extracts and did no such turning-my-brows-into-sun-dried-chilis.

FOTD: Holiday

FOTD: It’s Holiday!

Did you know that there are 11 days of holidays in a year in Singapore? No, that’s not a lot. Which is why when we get one, we do take advantage of it and put it to good use! What’s even better than a holiday is one that falls either just before or after a weekend, so that we get an extended weekend. A rare chance where our weekends are longer than the weekdays! So of course, it’s time to celebrate.

This FOTD was actually inspired by my slowly-healing inflamed foot. I’ve been limping around for about 2 weeks since it started to hurt and swell, and all this unsexy lumber has been so tiring. They should seriously include limping as an Olympic Games sport.  And because I was feeling a little down, I decided some colour would do the trick to put me back on track to being more cheerful over the long weekend. I call this FOTD “Holiday.” Here are some more close-ups of the eye makeup and a list of the products I used:
