Exotic by Jimmy Choo

Jimmy Choo Exotic

New from Jimmy Choo – Exotic.

The first time I ever heard of Jimmy Choo was when I watched the first Sex and the City movie (I’ve never watched the TV series). As much as I hated Carrie, I couldn’t help noticing how much she loved those sandals of hers and at that time in my life, I was coincidentally on the hunt for comfortable heels. I still don’t own any Jimmy Choo footwear – and someday I will – but hey, now at least I have a fragrance from the label!

Exotic is not the first fragrance from Jimmy Choo, but I must say it is the most eye-catching. Combining fiery red with milder colours, the snakeskin pattern exudes a feeling of explosive exuberance. Sadly this does not translate onto the bottle itself – I’d have loved it to be so!

Top notes: blackcurrant sorbet and pink grapefruit

Middle notes: passion flower and tiger orchid

Base notes: raspberry and patchouli

If you’re in Singapore, you can get yours at Metro Paragon. A 100ml bottle is priced at S$145, while the smaller 60ml bottle is priced at S$112. For those of you who are residing elsewhere, you can get the fragrance at The Style Store too! Tell me, will you be getting one?

The Crabtree & Evelyn Holiday 2013 Collection (Featuring Walter the Guinea Pig)

The Crabtree & Evelyn Holiday 2013 Collection

An eventful day in an enchanted dwelling.

As church bells chime in the gentle breeze and playful children squeal in their games, I let my eyes wander far beyond the snow-covered hills and friendly skies. The cool air smells fresh. Chokingly cold, but fresh. As I make my way down the steep, winding path, I soon lose sight of what expansive nature there was and come upon a mysterious little wooden gate, buried deep in a cluster of overgrown blue princess holly. Funny, I’ve never seen it around before. A slight push and the door creaks open. Several more steps forward, and I come across a modest cottage. Inside, it is almost bare, save for a tiny log table upon which it seems that someone’s in the midst of setting up a celebration or party of some sort.

The Crabtree & Evelyn Holiday 2013 Collection

Discover the secret garden.

Candles emanating heart warming scents. Plenty of fruits to go all around. Tins and tins of biscuits, cartons and cartons of tea bags. Fascinating tubes of ointments that promise youthful skin.

The Crabtree & Evelyn Holiday 2013 Collection

Fruity scents of apple, pear and seasonal berries.

Out of nowhere, there comes a polite cough and I turn around to see a guinea pig about the size of a five-year-old boy gazing ever so endearingly at me. “I- I- Why this is awkward,” it said. “We’ve never had anyone in here before! Would you like to pick your presents up yourself?”

Eau d'Ivoire by Balmain

Presenting l’Eau d’Ivoire by Balmain

If someone mentions the word, “Miami,” what comes to mind besides Horatio? Beach babes, of course. The sun, sand and the sea. Summer. Blue waves crashing upon the shore. Sunbathers and lifeguards. Vintage Mustangs. And the Eau d’Ivoire by Balmain.

Eau d'Ivoire by Balmain

This fragrance contains bergamot and red current essences – a sweet, swwet symphony.

This second fragrance by fashion label Balmain (I blogged about Ivoire here) looks somewhat like the first, but differs in colour – what a lovely light pink shade – and scent. It’s less musky and more floral, definitely something more girly, more youthful and suited for summer fun. I was invited to the launch in Singapore; Check out some of the pictures I took that day!

Bvlgari Omnia Crystalline L'Eau de Parfum

The Bvlgari Crystalline l’Eau de Parfum

Sophisticated, classy, elegant and refined. It’s not every day that I get to come close to the brand Bvlgari, especially since I can barely afford any of their baubles and trinkets (nor had I been able to pronounce their name, which I now know sounds like “Bool-gari”).  Owning or even touching any of these jewels is purely a dream but Bvlgari brings this dream a little closer to home with the newest addition to their fragrance line, the Omnia Crystalline l’Eau de Parfum.

Bvlgari Omnia Crystalline L'Eau de Parfum

Fronted by top model Edita Vilkeviciute, the fragrance focuses on the soft graciousness of, and the growing tenacity in a woman; a precious, delicate lotus flower blooming with radiance; enticing towards all who set their sights upon it. Feels like stone, yet looks like water.

Crabtree & Evelyn Verbena & Lavender

Refreshing Lemons is the New Crabtree & Evelyn Verbena and Lavender Collection

Everybody knows what lavender is. That purple coloured flower that spa companies like to put into their aroma therapy oils. The one that puts the image of a whole field of purple into mind when the therapist massages your head. Now, now. Just to set things straight, this is lavender:

Lavender field

Lavenders all around. Smelling so sweet that even bees can’t resist.

Familiar scene. But what about verbena? It’s not some fancy pancy name Crabtree & Evelyn came up with for their Verbena and Lavender range. This is verbena:

Lemon Verbena

To be specific, this is lemon verbena.

Lemon verbena is a type of herb, looks something like mint, and it smells also something like mint – refreshing. When you mix verbena and lavender together, the final result is something that will wake you up on a lazy Sunday, something herbal and something you’d like your guy to smell like after an afternoon of soccer.

Best Beauty Products

Laced Ivory’s Best Beauty Products

I’ve been meaning to do up this list of the best beauty products I’ve laid my hands on since the end of last year, but didn’t have the chance or time to. This list features makeup and skincare products that I just can’t seem to put down no matter what. I hope you find something interesting here; Feel free to click on the links to read my reviews on some of the products!

1) Favourite Foundation – Dior’s Diorskin Forever Compact SPF 25++

This compact powder, in short, mattifies my skin and has a medium, buildable coverage. It does not break me out and can be applied with a brush, such as the Becca Cosmetics Retractable Kabuki Makeup Brush.

2) Favourite Blush – Illamasqua’s Powder Blusher in Ambition

This blush has just enough pigmentation and shimmer to highlight cheekbones and bring out the colour of my skin! See some close-up pictures of the blush here.

3) Favourite Lipstick Shade – Vapour Organic Beauty’s Siren Lipstick in Possess

Attempts to find a dupe for this shade have proved futile. This shade is the perfect natural one for my lips. To tell if a lipstick shade looks natural on you, it should be as close to the colour of your tongue as possible. See how this lipstick looks on me in my Sweet Valentine’s Look.

4) Favourite Mascara – Fairy Drops’ Platinum Mascara Waterproof Type

This mascara is my Holy Grail. Ever since I tried this, I can’t use any other mascara because this one totally volumises and lengthens my lashes the way I desire. It also doesn’t flake as far as I can remember and it washes off easily with eye makeup remover.

5) Favourite Eyebrow Powder – Bobbi Brown Cosmetics’ Eyeshadow in 61 Saddle

This eyeshadow shade is one of the two shades that make up the Bobbi Brown Cosmetics Dark Brow Kit. It’s a shade that isn’t too dark nor too light, and it’s also not reddish, unlike the ones from Benefit Cosmetics. Perfect for an Asian skin tone.

6) Favourite Smokey Eye Palette – Sleek Makeup’s iDivine 596 Bad Girl Palette

This palette consists of 12 shades that range from black, silver, blue and green to purple. There are also two highlighter shades. The palette comes with a mirror that pans the entire length of the packaging and a double-ended sponge applicator. It’s perfect as a travel companion and gives you great pigmentation payoff. Just what you need for a girls’ night out in town when you’re on holidays. This palette is available on

7) Favourite Nail Polish Brand and Shade – Deborah Lippmann’s Ruby Red

I love Deborah Lippmann polishes because not only are they cruelty-free, the colours are so pretty and the quality of the polishes is value-for-money. Ruby Red is my favourite lacquer shade of all time (so far) because I just love the red glitter on black! It’s so festive, yet it still retains a sense of mystery.

8) Favourite Makeup Brush – Sigma Makeup’s Eye Shading E55 Brush

The E55 is my current favourite brush for applying eye makeup. It picks up just enough product and manages to place the colours right where I want it. It also blends well, which is a must for creating the smokey eye look. I got this brush as part of the Mrs. Bunny Travel Kit. The blue and pink colour combination of the brush – and the fact that the brand is cruelty-free – makes me go weak in the knees!

Enough of makeup! Let's talk about skin and body care!

Enough of makeup! Let’s talk about skin and body care!

9) Favourite Fragrance – Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle Eau de Parfum

I love how this scent is a mix of sweetness and musk. It’s very elegant, ladylike and refreshing. Plus, the bottle is so pretty! Sorry Cara, I haven’t got a whiff of the Burberry Body yet!

10) Favourite Makeup Remover – Shu Uemura’s Ultime8 Cleansing Oil

Although this cleansing oil has a strong chemical smell, I’ve since gotten used to it. Compared to the other cleansing oils from Shu Uemura, this one has got a much lighter consistency and I love how it feels like water. It removes makeup but doesn’t leave the skin feeling dry. Some good news: the price of this product has been revised (in Singapore, at least) and is now more affordable!

11) Favourite Eye Cream – SK-II’s Skin Signature Eye Cream

It effectively lightens dark circles and diminishes the appearance of wrinkles. Nothing more I can ask for. It may cost a bit much for some, but for the amount that comes in the bottle (it lasts for months), and for the results it gives, I’d say it’s well worth it!

12) Favourite Face Mask Sheet – My Beauty Diary’s Arbutin A

Arbutin is an ingredient that helps to lighten the skin and this mask does just that. When placed in the refrigerator before use, it helps to perk you up and makes you feel refreshed afterwards. Great for those long summer days! I recommend getting a box of 10 masks at a time.

13) Favourite Leave-on Face Mask – Fancl’s Overnight Hydrating Pack

This product was initially meant to be a limited edition item but because of its huge success, I’m so glad to say that it’s now part of Fancl’s permanent range! Yes! I’ve not stopped using this ever since I got my hands on it in September last year, and I don’t think I’ve ever come across another mask quite like this one. This mask is so luxurious and it helps to brighten and even out the skin tone overnight. You’ll see results the morning after your first application.

14) Favourite Overall Skincare Product – Skin Street’s Sonic Cleanse

This is a cheaper alternative to the Clarisonic and the Sirius Skin Sonic that works just as well. It cleanses deep within the pores and I don’t have to exfoliate as often anymore. I no longer get whiteheads and I also breakout less often now that I’ve incorporated this into my skincare routine. I will never look back.

15) Favourite Body Moisturiser – Elizabeth Arden’s Green Tea Lavender Honey Drops Body Cream

I love the way this moisturiser feels on my skin and how it’s got little balls of honey mixed throughout the cream. I also love the scent because it calms me down at night and puts me in a relaxed state of mind before I head to bed. Even in the day, the scent helps me to de-stress.

Balmain Ivoire

Ivoire by Balmain

“She’s definitely a Parisian, but one who moves around, who loves to travel and borrow fashion ideas from capitals around the world. A true woman, with a hint of masculinity, who tends to harbour a certain idea of nostalgia while remaining firmly focused on the present day.” – Olivier Rousteing

If there was ever a quote to describe me better, I haven’t found it. Well, OK, maybe expect the Parisian part. Nonetheless, Ivoire by Balmain is one scent that isn’t overly womanly or girly. It’s not floral or sweet but more musky and powdery. The mandarin and orange essences in the top notes are the most evident when first spritzed. The middle notes consist of galbanum, ylang essence, jasmine, rose and pepper; while vanilla essence brings out cedar wood and the rest of the components in the bottom notes to reveal a woody remnant. The sturdy bottle classically flaunts the pale gold perfume; Its pure lines exemplify Balmain’s philosophy of luxury and the couture heritage of the Balmain house.

Simplistic opulence.

Balmain – A little bit of mystery, a little bit of modernity.

The story behind Ivoire:

Created in 1979, Ivoire was the last signature fragrance developed by Pierre Balmain, founder of the Balmain brand. It was during one evening in Paris that he caught sight of a girl, draped in white silk, walking down the steps of l’Opéra with a broad-brimmed ivory hat perched on top. Mesmerised, he dedicated this fragrance to her.

The Ivoire woman.

Ivoire by Balmain.

The bottle sits perfectly on any girl’s dresser, bringing to mind the idea of glamour, class, femininity and rich ornamentation. It’s a timeless scent that grows on you and it’s not something that one can easily forget.
