Hey, can you hear that? That silvery, melodic ringing of sleigh bells in the far distance? It seems to be getting closer! Just 3 more weeks and it’ll be Christmas. Have you completed – or even started – your Christmas shopping yet? I definitely have!
Every end of the year, I’ve been told by family members that I turn into a Crabtree & Evelyn ambassador. And why not? I really love their holiday collections, one after the other, and this is especially so since their beautiful packaging is like hot chocolate on a cold winter’s day – I can’t resist it! Here are my top three picks from their recent Holiday 2013 Secret Garden Collection!
As church bells chime in the gentle breeze and playful children squeal in their games, I let my eyes wander far beyond the snow-covered hills and friendly skies. The cool air smells fresh. Chokingly cold, but fresh. As I make my way down the steep, winding path, I soon lose sight of what expansive nature there was and come upon a mysterious little wooden gate, buried deep in a cluster of overgrown blue princess holly. Funny, I’ve never seen it around before. A slight push and the door creaks open. Several more steps forward, and I come across a modest cottage. Inside, it is almost bare, save for a tiny log table upon which it seems that someone’s in the midst of setting up a celebration or party of some sort.
Discover the secret garden.
Candles emanating heart warming scents. Plenty of fruits to go all around. Tins and tins of biscuits, cartons and cartons of tea bags. Fascinating tubes of ointments that promise youthful skin.
Fruity scents of apple, pear and seasonal berries.
Out of nowhere, there comes a polite cough and I turn around to see a guinea pig about the size of a five-year-old boy gazing ever so endearingly at me. “I- I- Why this is awkward,” it said. “We’ve never had anyone in here before! Would you like to pick your presents up yourself?”
Gingy doesn’t need Suzy to be happy this Christmas.
If you love a sweet Christmas – think honeybees – and if you love our earth, then perhaps Burt’s Bees would be a nice way to say that you care this holiday season. I dare say you should hang those superbly adorable ornament lip balms up on your Christmas tree!
Doe a deer, a female deer. Hanging right up on my tree.
There are several sets that you can get at Sephora this November, and here are just some of them.
The Body Shop has launched their Holiday 2013 Collection as well, joining the recent slew of brands all getting us hot and excited about Christmas. In this entry, I’m only featuring the makeup items that will be coming out in November, as well as some of the items from the body care range. It’s not really possible to feature everything because there’re just too many!
Santa can you hear me?
I have been so good this year and all I want is one thing.
Tell me my true love is near.
He’s all I want, just for me underneath my Christmas tree.
I’ll be waiting here.
Santa that’s my only wish this year.
That may be old school for some, but this song never gets old for me. It’s still one of my favourites for that special time of the year! Here’s what else is vintage for you – the Stila Holiday 2013 Collection! Lots of sets coming your way again, what with lip glosses and eyeshadow palettes for each skin tone.
First up are the Masterpiece Series Eye & Cheek Palettes, S$49 each. There are 3 palettes, each one containing 4 eyeshadows and 1 blush, and each one catered to a specific skin tone. I’d say two of them are for those of us who are warm toned and the palette with the blue and black is for the cooler toned. Not sure which one fits you the best? There’re always makeup experts in Sephora whom you can approach! The palettes can be bought separately or together in a set.

‘Tis the season to be merry, tra la la la la la la la la! And why not sing your way to the shops, because Bobbi Brown has launched their Holiday 2013 Collection! Sales will begin at the very beginning of November, so you can make haste while the wintry sun shines. It’s no secret – Bobbi Brown is one of my favourite makeup brands, mainly because of their very wearable shades that seem to suit just about any skin tone on earth.
This year the brand celebrates the holiday season with two different collections, the Bobbi Brown Old Hollywood Collection and the Bobbi Brown Holiday Gift Giving 2013 Collection.
The Bobbi Brown Old Hollywood Collection is all about red carpet glam that never grows out of style. With 6 limited edition items and 2 new ones added to the permanent range, you can party in style with shimmery glosses and glittery nails.

Are you vain? Every waking moment of your every day? If you answer yes, then congratulations! Hop on board, sista, you are just like me… and almost everyone else who can’t stand the wind blowing in all the wrong directions. And if you do revel in a good bargain when shopping, hey, where’s all mah soul sisters, lemme hear ya’ll flow sisters.
Before you go gichie gichie yaya dada, check out the new e-store in town – Daily Vanity! Founded by sweet couple Keith Toh (handsome tech junkie) and Kristen Juliet Soh (gorgeous beauty blogger), DailyVanity brings tried and tested beauty products to us all at hugely discounted prices. Flash sales happen every week, where star products from reputable brands, such as SK-II and Philosophy, are up for grabs at prices much lower than what you’ll usually get in stores.
I was invited to the blogger’s party, held at Le Noir in Singapore, to celebrate the launch of the store at the beginning of the month, and got to meet up with quite a few other bloggers, some of whom I’ve not met in quite a while!
The only tarts I know are the kind that girls love to eat and then chid themselves after having done so. Apple, lemon meringue, strawberry, custard. The list goes on but now there’s a new tart in town – Tarte Cosmetics! Perhaps the only thing this newbie has in common with the rest is that it’s cruelty-free. That’s assuming the act of harvesting fruits and preheating ovens doesn’t result in the maiming of our furry friends.
Since we’re on the topic of tarts, I wonder what kind people usually make during Christmas. Any tart would be fine by me, actually, though my favourite would be something lemony. Have that together with a piping hot cup of tea, snuggled in the couch with a loved one, while snowflakes fall gently down on the window pane and bells jingle softly in the distance.
In a parallel universe, I would, still, be having a lemony tarty, but this time, I’ve also got a table-full of Tarte Cometics’ makeup to play with. Now how about their Holiday 2013 Collection?

What’s black and white and starts with the letter “S?” I suppose I don’t need to spell it out for you but in case you still haven’t a clue, Sephora held a preview of the holiday 2013 collections coming up later this year! I managed to pop by the event and apart from getting my hair styled by celebrity stylist Michael Shaun Corby, I got to see what this year’s holiday would be like – makeup style.
First up in line is the Too Faced Holiday 2013 Collection. Featuring eyeshadow palettes and something cute for the tech junkies out there, the collection comprises a total of 4 different sets. And here they are!
Too Faced’s A Few Of My Favourite Things Set, S$74.
Oh my, where do I get started? 20 brand new shades, glittery, shimmery and matte – all in a brand new, one-of-a-kind palette. The Urban Decay Vice 2 Palette is the latest eyeshadow bomb from the brand, launched in time for the holidays this year. Not only is it limited edition, each and every one of the palette is unique in the sense that the pattern on the purple-hued box is different for every palette. So if you’re one of those shoppers – like me – who tend to pick and choose the “perfect” product to take home with you every time you visit a store, this would certainly justify that.
