Weekends are becoming a rest-and-recuperate kind of thing for us around here. Saturdays are for exercising and shopping (for me), while Sunday mornings are for lazing in bed. In between all that, we make plans and I blog.
Mr. Ratatouille and I are planning our trip this coming June, and word has it that we’re headed to Australia! Sydney’s the first city on our itinerary, so that’s why in today’s Link Love entry, it’s all about Australia and what she has to offer.
1. Erica from Lifestyle Tea shares her list -and videos – of lazy Sunday songs.
2. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia takes us behind and in front of the scenes of the MBFW 2014.
3. The people at Concrete Playground tell us where to find the 10 best vintage stores in Sydney.
4. Vanessa from Flip and Style shows us how to pack for the long weekend.
5. The guides from The Urban List recommends Sydney’s 9 best new cafés for the year.
Mother’s Day in Singapore and many parts of the world doesn’t arrive till a month later but that doesn’t mean we can’t start shopping for our beloved mummies now! This post is dedicated to my mum (of course) and to all my friends who are mums of their own now. My, I never thought this day would come, when my friends from 15 years ago are now parents of little tots with ultimate cheeks.
Most of the items I’m featuring are from Cath Kidston because who can resist that floral pattern they do so well? It does help that ASOS is having a 20% off their store at the moment, so use the code XTRA20 when you checkout (all the items are on ASOS). I hope you’ll make your mummy happy this year!
New from Jimmy Choo – Exotic.
The first time I ever heard of Jimmy Choo was when I watched the first Sex and the City movie (I’ve never watched the TV series). As much as I hated Carrie, I couldn’t help noticing how much she loved those sandals of hers and at that time in my life, I was coincidentally on the hunt for comfortable heels. I still don’t own any Jimmy Choo footwear – and someday I will – but hey, now at least I have a fragrance from the label!
Exotic is not the first fragrance from Jimmy Choo, but I must say it is the most eye-catching. Combining fiery red with milder colours, the snakeskin pattern exudes a feeling of explosive exuberance. Sadly this does not translate onto the bottle itself – I’d have loved it to be so!
Top notes: blackcurrant sorbet and pink grapefruit
Middle notes: passion flower and tiger orchid
Base notes: raspberry and patchouli
If you’re in Singapore, you can get yours at Metro Paragon. A 100ml bottle is priced at S$145, while the smaller 60ml bottle is priced at S$112. For those of you who are residing elsewhere, you can get the fragrance at The Style Store too! Tell me, will you be getting one?
FRESH FROM THE STYLE STORE
Sweet, fruity and… pink!
Oh my goodness, I’m so excited to share with you today on Crabtree & Evelyn‘s new Pear and Pink Magnolia Collection! I caught sight of this new range in stores when I dropped by to collect a couple of Hand Therapy tubes (new packaging, yay!). A whiff was all I needed to get hooked onto the new scent.
First up, the packaging is lovely. If you know me by now, you’ll know I cannot resist anything that’s pink in colour, especially when it’s coupled with pretty florals and anything elegant or feminine!
Secondly, the scent is sweet but not to the extent where ants and bees would want to be your friend. It’s not overwhelmingly pear, but yet not too flowery either. Juicy is the word. The fragrance is blended with lemon, jasmine, osmanthus, as well as orris, on top of the two main ingredients. Here’s the collection in a nutshell:
Kate Middleton in Jenny Packham Bridal 2014.
Fashion inspiration 101 – Wear what Kate wears. No, not really. That Jenny Packham gown is too gorgeous and too exclusive to be put up for sale any ol’ how (or so they say). First – and probably last – seen on the Duchess of Cambridge when she attended the Portrait Gala 2014 at the National Portrait Gallery in London, the gown isn’t on sale as it’s specially made in this midnight blue tone to suit the lady and her jewels.
While we won’t get a loan from the Queen herself (I’m talking jewels here), we can try to emulate Kate’s elegance. Here are three gowns I’ve specially picked for you!
Gowns we can actually wear!
1) Tiered Chiffon Gown by Adrianna Papell, $198, available on nordstrom.com
2) Chiffon Metallic Gown in Navy by Issa, $845, available on Forward by Elyse Walker
3) Strapless Sweetheart Chiffon Gown by La Femme, $360, available on nordstrom.com
I really love the gown by Issa. I used to love Dior gowns, but then I switched to Elie Saab and Marchesa, and now it seems Jenny Packham’s in my radar too, even though she’s more known for her bridal collections than haute couture. What do you think of Kate’s dress?

As January draws to an end, the next thing on our minds inevitably points towards the 14th of February. For some, it’s quite the exciting day, because, you know, it’s the first time of their lives they’re celebrating it with someone. For others, it can get rather annoying, seeing girls walk down Orchard Road with human-sized teddy bears with smug satisfaction imprinted on their faces. There’s no guessing which category I belong to, but just to set the record straight, I’m somewhere in between the two.
I do like Valentine’s Day but to be honest, any day could be a perfect Valentine’s. And what would anyone do with teddy bears that aren’t of any use? Guys, if there’s one thing you should not get a potential lover for V-day, it’s definitely some cuddly tuft of wool (unless it’s her kind of thing). We ladies like something more… practical these days. You know, like makeup *ahem*. Or maybe I’m just getting old.
The Etude House Chocolate Kiss Collection.
The time has come yet again for children’s songs and sounds of fire crackers playing over the sound system in malls. Chinese New Year is what it is! Say yes to all the bak kwa, pineapple tarts and love letters galore. Are you still searching for something new to wear? Let me show you what I’ve picked out from Zalora‘s Chinese New Year Sale!
There are five main brands to pick from: Ezra, Inner Circle CNY, ML X AC, Clothier and Moon River. Each brand’s got something different to offer, so whether you prefer cheongsams or loose tops, you should find something to your liking!
Skinny Pants by Melinda Looi X Amber Chia.
Deluxe Hand Therapy Sampler 1, S$78.
Hey, can you hear that? That silvery, melodic ringing of sleigh bells in the far distance? It seems to be getting closer! Just 3 more weeks and it’ll be Christmas. Have you completed – or even started – your Christmas shopping yet? I definitely have!
Every end of the year, I’ve been told by family members that I turn into a Crabtree & Evelyn ambassador. And why not? I really love their holiday collections, one after the other, and this is especially so since their beautiful packaging is like hot chocolate on a cold winter’s day – I can’t resist it! Here are my top three picks from their recent Holiday 2013 Secret Garden Collection!
An eventful day in an enchanted dwelling.
As church bells chime in the gentle breeze and playful children squeal in their games, I let my eyes wander far beyond the snow-covered hills and friendly skies. The cool air smells fresh. Chokingly cold, but fresh. As I make my way down the steep, winding path, I soon lose sight of what expansive nature there was and come upon a mysterious little wooden gate, buried deep in a cluster of overgrown blue princess holly. Funny, I’ve never seen it around before. A slight push and the door creaks open. Several more steps forward, and I come across a modest cottage. Inside, it is almost bare, save for a tiny log table upon which it seems that someone’s in the midst of setting up a celebration or party of some sort.
Discover the secret garden.
Candles emanating heart warming scents. Plenty of fruits to go all around. Tins and tins of biscuits, cartons and cartons of tea bags. Fascinating tubes of ointments that promise youthful skin.
Fruity scents of apple, pear and seasonal berries.
Out of nowhere, there comes a polite cough and I turn around to see a guinea pig about the size of a five-year-old boy gazing ever so endearingly at me. “I- I- Why this is awkward,” it said. “We’ve never had anyone in here before! Would you like to pick your presents up yourself?”
Gingy doesn’t need Suzy to be happy this Christmas.
If you love a sweet Christmas – think honeybees – and if you love our earth, then perhaps Burt’s Bees would be a nice way to say that you care this holiday season. I dare say you should hang those superbly adorable ornament lip balms up on your Christmas tree!
Doe a deer, a female deer. Hanging right up on my tree.
There are several sets that you can get at Sephora this November, and here are just some of them.
